Ed Zubrzycki was a husband and father when he died in 2015. A detective with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, he also became a grim statistic, joining the growing ranks of law enforcement officers who commit suicide.
On Tuesday, Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced that New Jersey would become the first in the nation to establish a Department of Officer Resiliency. It’s modeled after an FBI program. He directed all law enforcement agencies to appoint a resiliency program officer and to establish a program within three years and work to shatter the stigmas of seeking help.
One nonprofit reports nationally 167 officers took their own lives last year — eight in New Jersey.
